π§Like all children born in their realm, Opal had slipped out of her mother like water. Soft and fresh. With skin and bones just as clear, so that all her insides were plain to see. Her lungs were pink and pumping. Her heart was red and thumping. Her bowels correctly clumping. ...as the air struck her skin, her bones whitened and her skin turned toasty. The midwife declared that before the baby's brain vanished from her sight, she had glimpsed the iridescent sheen of opal. βFrom "Those Born Bejeweled"
Parting wordsπͺΆ Next time, we venture into uncanny places. And I write stories about spies, or insects, or interceptions. Happy reading and listening! π |
