March 2025 Issue 1 In this issue: A round-up of the February stories and podcast episodes, and a heads up about a slight change I'll be trying out. FOLKLORE AND FAIRY TALESEver wonder if our current tales of cryptids and urban legends will become the folkore and fairy tales of the future? 🤔 (I'm acting as if this is a hot take, when this is probably how these things happen.) 🐦Greetings! I'm Nila. Every week, I release a new short story and a new podcast episode spanning the genres of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, mythology, fairy tale, fable, and horror. Here we go... Lore about folks and fairies in FebruaryAt first, I wasn't sure what storytelling element I wanted to explore. I somehow settled on folklore. And the podcast episodes were various kinds of fairy tales, including my take on a couple of classics. Titles and taglines below. Enjoy! Short StoriesWe're in Year 12, the Year of Praxis. The word essentially means "practice." Through the stories, I'm exploring elements of my writing practice. THE KESUARIS AMBLING THROUGH RUINS WITH A CAT THE WOLVERINE AND THE LION DEMON JITTERS IN THE MAD MOON Podcast EpisodesWe're in season 8, the Year of Revisitation. Each episode is a standalone story, but it's inspired by an earlier story. The text links below go to the Explore page on Storyfeather, where you can listen to the episode, find the links to the episode(s) that inspired it, and more. Pressing on the Spotify embed image leads to the episode's Spotify page. THE BOOK OF THE FAIRY AZURINE A young woman aims to save her fairy friend—who is hunted by a demon—by creating an inescapable trap.
To be a beauty is both a burden and a boon.
When Lucinda’s dream of studying magic is dashed, she finds another chance in a grand royal contest that she’s been forbidden to enter.
Wil Winsome is a magician-for-hire, whose newest case may involve excising a possessing spirit from a beloved and fragile grandmother.
Parting words🪶I'd like to try something different for the next issue, and going forward, assuming it works out. Instead of recapping a month's worth of storytelling in one issue, I'll break it up between two. I'm hoping that will make issues more manageable for me, and for you. And I should have room to include a little something extra in each issue, like a book or podcast recommendation, a poll, a random quote perhaps. Whose quote? Mine? Someone else's? |
